Suzanne Mullings, PhD, RN
Dean, Nursing
Professional Biography
Dr. Suzanne Mullings, is a nurse educator and academic leader dedicated to preparing the next generation of nurses for confident, competent practice. As Dean of Nursing at Â鶹ӰԺ in Jersey City, New Jersey, she leads the college's ADN, BSN, and online RN-to-BSN programs. She guides faculty, curriculum, and accreditation with a steady focus on student success and measurable outcomes.
Her path into nursing began with science. Dr. Mullings earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, laying the scientific foundation for her clinical and teaching career. While working at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, she returned to school and earned her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Bergen Community College. BCC remains part of her story. She has taught there as an adjunct lecturer and served as a clinical instructor, giving back to the program that launched her nursing career.
Her leadership is grounded in more than two decades inside the healthcare system. Dr. Mullings began her career at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, supervising staff across acute care, critical care, pediatric, and maternity units. After earning her nursing degree, she practiced in emergency and progressive care, then served eight years as Assistant Nursing Care Coordinator of a cardio-pulmonary and telemetry unit. In that role she directed interdisciplinary care, managed staffing and patient flow, and mentored nurses new to practice.
Since 2013, Dr. Mullings has brought that clinical depth to the classroom. She taught medical-surgical nursing at Lehman College (CUNY), Holy Name Hospital, and Bergen Community College before joining Berkeley College. There she advanced from faculty to Associate Chair, Interim Chair, and Department Chair of Nursing. She led curriculum development and guided the department through accreditation success. In 2022 she was appointed Dean of Nursing at Â鶹ӰԺ.
A scholar as well as an administrator, Dr. Mullings earned her PhD in Nursing from the CUNY Graduate Center. Her scholarship centers on the transition to practice, especially how nurse residency programs shape the work readiness of new graduate nurses. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and a registered nurse in New York and New Jersey.
